Kendra (pg.220-292)

Summary
The novel its coming to the resolution of everything occurring within the novel Kendra by Coe Booth. Since Kendra has been living with her mother its almost as if she is finally getting to understand who her mother is and the struggle she had to go through as a teen mother. While Kendra was noticing that having sex is something that she can't play around with because any day she could end up like her mother and not knowing anything about her own daughter. After Kendra and her mother sat down and had a one on one talk life began to get a little more easier for her because she finally had someone to come to and she finally had knew the truth about her mothers feelings towards her as a child. Towards the end of the novel Kendra began to become more opened about her relationship and becoming more responsible about the things she do.

Quote
"And I know what she's thinking because I'm thinking the same thing-that this is crazy. That nothing's ever gonna change" (Booth).

Reaction
This quote is ironic from my point of view. The quote is ironic because Kendra states that things will never change but i believe that a lot of things have changed within the novel. From Kendra experiences she has been able to deal with them in mature matters and trying her best to be two people she isn't by making the ones she love happy. I believe that anyone who reads this novel will be able to connect in so many different ways, maybe not to an extreme point but to a point where they can relate in a positive way or one that triggers a memory. Many novels you will have a connection but reading a ten novel will show you and help you make good choices in your life.

Kendra (pg.120-220)

Summary
At this point in the novel Kendra by Coe Booth she is beginning to get a lot of attention from guys from her school; with all this attention she does not know what to do with it because she never received so much before. Even though Kendra is getting all the attention she has to be careful because her aunt is beginning a relationship with one of the boys and it can cause a bad situation if things don't go as planned. Not only but with these boys liking Kendra she seems almost confused about who she is interested in either Darnell or Nashawn. Both of these guys are fine young men but at the same time they each look at Kendra for different reasons. With Kendra making her own decisions she begins to become jealous of her aunts relationship with Nashawn and she feels like she is betrayed and was used. With all the drama going on between Kendra and the young boys she is sent to live with her mother. Throughout the entire novel Kendra has been eager to live with her mother but since she has been there she felt as if things are becoming even more distant between them. Kendra is going through a lot and it seems like nothing good is coming out.

Quote
"My own mother, you're supposed to want me no matter what. But for you, everything and everybody else is more important than me. Well, I need somebody, too. And when I tell you that I'm trying to change, you don't believe me. I mean, that doctor don't know me, but you, you're supposed to be on my side, You're supposed to get me. And you don't. You don't know me at all"(Booth 220).

Reaction
This quote generalizes everything that is occurring with Kendra. In the quote it explains Kendra is sexually active, alone, and she needs her mother in her life. I feel like since Kendra is only fourteen life is becoming very complex going into her teen years because she doesn't have stabilized parents to talk her through her problems. Life is hard growing up and not not have someone support you through the choices that are made or help make them then it puts more responsibility upon you when you can't handle all of it. Reading this book i feel like every girl can relate to how Kendra feels when it comes to guys because you can be easily drawn in by the things they say or do. The only thing that we as young ladies must understand is that being strong and doing the things we need to do are the best choices that we can make in order to ignore the bad choices.

Kendra (pg.120-180)

Summary
In the novel of Kendra by Coe Booth the climax begins to become the extreme point so far throughout the novel. With Kendra having more independence she begins to go another level with the way people look at her because of the anger she has bottled up. Kendra's' mother is very young so she want to be free and not take the responsibility that she has a child; with Renee she doesn't want to be locked down and she feels as if her daughter is doing so. The reactions of Renee severely affects Kendra because she doesn't notice the people who love her and are trying to help her. Kendra begins to pick the people who will only be there for her for only a portion of her life time rather than the one who will be there for her. Being only fourteen Kendra is beginning to make the wrong choices that will lead her down the wrong road.

Quote
"I nod not knowing what to say. Then he opens the door and he's gone, and my heart is beating fast. He's coming back for me. What does that even mean? Is he taking me somewhere? Where? I feel like my body i shaking from the inside" (Booth 160).

Reaction
This quote was from Kendra in the middle of a stage crew event. She was thinking this after the boy Nashawn came in the middle of the event and told Kendra what he wanted her to do. When reading this it made me upset because it shown Kendra's weakness because she wants to be liked. Not only but many young girls get manipulated by others and do things that they do not want to do. I think something serious will occur with Kendra if she does not learn to make wise decisions.
