Space Between the Stars (pg.232-338)

Summary
In the resolution of the novel Space Between the Stars by Deborah Santana; Deborah is in a happy marriage which she begins to doubt if its actually faithful. Deborah soon leaves Carlos Santana for the reasons of not being faithful. Carlos who is so in love and devoted to Deborah decided to turn his life around just to prove his loyalty. While being a disciple and following the teachings of a Guru, Deborah has another abortion; one from her previous relationship and one in the relationship with Carlos, due to the fact she is told that a family would create an off setting to her meditation life. Deborah and Carlos soon decide to follow their own beliefs by leaving the Centre' and become the oneness they first set out to be. In their eighteen years of marriage Deborah and Carlos have three children; two girls and a boy. Life seemed to be very easy for them other than the complications beginning to climax again. In 1989 Deborah received a devastating call about her father having a stroke. At this point in the novel it was very hard for Deborah because her father was like her back bone which always had support for her no matter how long the problem grew. Even with the sudden shock of her father having a stroke and surviving, some people very close to were not able to survive. Deborah and Carlos's close friends were later identified in a plane crash. The death of their friends was even more shocking because their friends helped in the Santana Band business. So much began to unravel with Deborah that even business itself was becoming a down fall in their lives. The Santana Band and family was not financially prepared for the life ahead of them and they were not prepared for the life they were living. After taking full control of the Santana documentations and files Deborah started to get things back to where they needed to be. Not only but she also began to begin writing. After years of pain and heartache and the struggle of Deborah finding her self she soon begins to realize that the person she is, is strong , courageous and never gives up. In the novel Space Between the Stars by Deborah Santana, Deborah and the Santana family is the finial denouement with Carlos becoming famous and being happy with the path he create for him self. As for Deborah she continues to be a mom, a friend, a support system, and the independent soul that reflects her inner truth.

Quote
"Learn to discriminate in the new year. Examine every impulse that comes, to see if it is the right thing for you to act on. And when your reasons tell you to do a certain thing, let neither the fates nor the gods stand in your way"( Santana 267).

Reaction
This quote is something that Deborah would carry around with her because it helped her connect with her self. This quotes' meaning is to follow your own path and the things that your mind, body, and soul believes in. The quote is to reflect upon your own decisions and beliefs. I think that this quote is very important for the novel because all the events that Deborah Santana went through. Throughout the novel Space Between the Stars by Deborah Santana I believe that she lived a life to everyone else's expectations and not realizing her owns. Not only but since Deborah came across this quote it showed me as a reader that she is taking the path and finishing the path that she formed rather than the one some one else made out for her.

Space between the Stars (pg. 181-232)

Summary
In the chapters of Space Between the Stars by Deborah Santana were recently explored it explains Deborah's path that she finds that she believes completes her. At the point in the novel Deborah is in New York with Carlos Santana; her boyfriend she is recently dating. In New York Carlos is recording a song and also visiting a friend who is a disciple who follows the path of a Guru. While they stayed in New York they began to get deeper into the spiritual word of meditation. When they begin to get deeper into meditation they find the meaning behind meditating, coming to peace with ones self, and learning to make sacrifices. Deborah and Carlos was later invited to stay in New York and become true disciples. This created a climax in the novel. This was the climax in the novel because Deborah was not sure she was ready to give up her lifestyle and change it to begin on a new purified road. As for Carlos he was confused because he was not sure he was meant to follow this certain Guru and he didn't not want to cut his hair. Making a decision that was to change their lives forever was very hard because they were so young and they were not sure if it was time. The denouement came when they each decided that they would become disciples. Since they became disciples it gave them each a deeper look at their paths and kept them moving forward with the new rules they would abide by for their new profound life as newlyweds.

Quote
"Our Beliefs and openness to spirituality united us in a way that had never been close with anyone before. I felt deeply in love after having thought i could never love again, because i was speaking, living, and acting from what i believed to be true..."(Santana 184).

Reaction
This quote is a great realization to what Deborah Santana has experienced. Since she has been meditating she begins to see things more clear rather than before. In Deborah's past she had mad choices to where it created many limitations for her were she did not know what love was or even think twice about the people that she was hurting around her. I believe that meditating does clean the soul, body and mind because what i have experienced reading Deborah words. In the novel Space Between the Stars by Deborah Santana the words come together as facts and warnings. Deborah words are to influence the mind of a young adult to explain to them its never to late to love and even change your life around but that is only if you want it for yourself.

Space Between the Stars (pg.133-180)

Summary
Throughout the novel Space Between the Stars by Deborah Santana; she begins to explain her growth and how she is beginning to adjust to a new relationship and a new life style. Since Deborah has been with Carlos Santana; Deborah became very cautious about the person she will be and become. One thing she wanted to make sure was that she did not mix her school life up with her love life. Deborah re enrolled herself back into college and she wanted to make sure she had her education level on track as she first planned since she left Sly Stone. Deborah began to make new decisions and smart decisions being with Carlos Santana which was asking for permission without leaving and no one knowing where she was going. Not only but Deborah even made sure that her teachers gave consent with her leaving for a short period of time but giving her ability to make up any work she missed. Deborah starts to grow up at this time and take responsibility for her actions. This point in the novel it starts to become the resolution to Deborah's' problems in the past; she is beginning to do what she knows is best for her stability. Deborah soon vacates with Carlos in order for him to record a song with another song writer in New York. While in New York she gets to experience first hand the true meaning of meditation. Meditation became a very important thing within Deborah's life where it brought peace and safety to herself. Even though Deborah has not completely recovered from her pain from her previous relationship; she begins to take small steps where it will take her to a point where she will no longer have to suffer as much as she once did.

Quote
"I felt stunned, as though knocked down by flood waters that had washed me clean. An exhilarating freedom was awakened inside me, as though my soul had been asleep until this moment of spiritual illumination, as though meditation on my own was just a hint of what could be experience" (Santana 156).

Reaction
The quote is an inside thought that Deborah Santana had while in New York meditating in the presence of a Guru. This quote has much meaning to the story because it show how bad that Deborah wanted a new life change in order to create something new. In so many ways Deborah is very brave because the first step to over coming her problem was admitting that she had a problem; which she showed by actually meditating. Deborah started meditating because she had something inside of her that she knew was not settling and she had to approach it in a calm way. Meditating seems like it is very calming and it answers the unanswered questions that she could not answer on her own. In the quote where it reads "as though meditation on my own was just a hint of what could be experienced," shows that there was an extra step that she had to take and when taken it just opened all doors for her. I believe this quote is a great example which explains it is never to late to give your self to a higher power when all believed is lost. Not only but the quote gives me happiness for Deborah because it shows that women are strong and we can over come the highest mountains that stand in our way.

In the novel Space Between the Stars by Deborah Santana the exposition begins to climb into the conflict stage in Deborah's life. When Deborah begins to date men she wants to be careful about the many decisions she knows that she will have to make. One day while walking home Deborah is stopped by a famous musician by the name of Sly Stone. Many people understand the baggage that most musicians bring with them; which was one thing Deborah's' father tried to explain to her, so she had to be careful. When Deborah beings to be mislead by his kindness and charm she starts to realize that the things he do to himself and other people are the exact things she was trying to avoid when getting involved in a relationship, which she too blinded by. Deborah's desire was to get Sly to love her the way she loved him but the more she tried the more she was being used to his personal extent. With Deborah believing that she was in loved she left college, her family, and friends just so she could feel as if she was being loved and this man cared so much about her. The love she shown him was very close and deep to her because she gave up her purity and he only loved her because she did the things he asked her which involved drugs, sex, and giving up her entire goals in life. This point in the novel is a major obstacle because it takes Deborah multiple times to try and leave the one she loves. When she finally leaves Sly she gives herself back to God. With her devotion to the Lord she begins to get her life back on track and remind her self day by day that she is stronger than what she was in the past when she was with Sly. Throughout the summer she soon finds her self being in strong like with a musician by the name of Carlos Santana; not thinking about dating she reminds her self once more that she can not get herself involved in another misleading relationship. Deborah is trying to find her self and she is trying her best to not get into a relationship that tells her who she is instead of her finding her own definition of her true colors.

Quote

Space Between the Stars
He said, "Come do this."
I said yes.
He said, "Come do that"
I said yes.
He said, "Give me your youth,
your innocence,
your precious time.
In return, I'll give you things,
I'm nice,
I'm a sheep-see my wool."
Now the priceless gifts I gave
are gone.
The things he gave are dung.
Now I see
I should say NO
to wolves in sheep's clothing

Love, mom

(Santana 97).

Reaction
In this quote the author gives a poem to the reader. This poem was written to the author by her mother when she was in the midst of ruining herself. This poem is written in the style of senceirness due to the fact Deborah's mom cared for Deborah's actions when she met Sly and how she let him run her life. This poem is a hint to life which is hidden within the words. The words explain the wool of sheep being soft and that gives and impression of kindness. Sly is the one deceiving himself as the sheep wool but at the same time he is just tricking Deborah in order to get what he wants from her. In the beginning of the novel Deborah was an innocent girl who did not know much about the world of horror which involved sex and drugs. Deborah gave up herself to this man who cared nothing about her but just to have her because he seen beauty and this young girl who can being misguided because of the nice expensive things he can give and the small attention to make her think he cared. I feel like the poem is very nice and strong. Since Deborah can't hear what her family is telling her about this man they describe it for her. As she reads the poem she realizes that it is about her and she is no longer herself because all the things she had done jus to be with this man. This poem is a lesson that all girls should learn to think about because being deceived by a man is something that we as girls and young ladies will want to rethink because when the important things we do not notice are gone we will regret that we ever let someone take total control of our precious temples.
