Summary
In the novel Kendra by Coe Booth the exposition begins to rise to the climax. The climax is beginning to get extreme within the family. Being only fourteen Kendra trys to become independent by being apart of a stage crew at her school. With so much support she begins to get a little trust from her grandmother to actually participate. Its only when Kendra tries to get her mother involved in her life for once. For Kendra having her mother come to her last showcase was very important to her because she wants her to be involved in her life but things don't go as planned. With the idea that her mother does not care she begins to get involved with a boy named Nashawn which is not a good thing when she begins to do the things that she was told never to do being so young. Slipping her mind all the rules she was given all she begins to search for the one thing which is love.
Quote
"And I'm kissing him back, too. It don't matter that i don't really know what I'm doing. I'm just going with it" (Booth 97).
Reaction
At this point in the story Kendra is making out with Nashawn; a boy she hardly knows and it show he innocence and her yearn for someone to love her. When reading this part in the novel i felt that Kendra tries hard everyday for someone to love her and no one ever does. So by Kendra making out with Nashawn it gives her a message that someone may love. This shows me that some girls have it hard and they look for love in all the wrong places.

Kendra (pg.1-61)
Summary
In this young teen novel Kendra by Coe Booth it begins with the complications of growing up with someone who is not your parent; someone who is protective because they are afraid that you will one day live a life which is not one they look forward for you to follow. The main character in the novel is Kendra is is fourteen and lives with her grandma. At this point in the novel characters are being introduced and the setting is also. Kendra the daughter of Renee her mother who gave birth to her at fourteen lives a life of expectations.; with a mother who pays no mind to her, a father who is to young to support his own child and finding her place in school and not following behind her aunt who is also her close friend. Kendra being young and naive believes her mother is going to begin paying attention to her now that she has finished school but Renee has her own plans which Kendra is yet not to know of.
Quote
"I don't know why, but I'm kinda surprised by what she's saying. I mean, Renee is young and i can understand that she wants to have fun, but i don't need her to be going to clubs and everything. I need her to be my mother now" (pg.44).
Reaction
This quote is an inside thought to how Kendra feels on a daily basis about her mom. With Kendra being young and having trouble getting along with her grandmother Kendra yearns for the attention of her mother who is young. This quote is a very important part of the novel because Kendra wants her mother to be involved in her life and have a positive guidance. I feel like i can relate to Kendra in many ways because it is like i miss that same space within as well and wanting to have that space filled is hard because the one who fills it is not ready to take on that responsibility because they live life in the fast lane.
